Jane Obee

1845-1909

Jane was born in Haywards Heath, Sussex, the daughter of William and Jane Peskett (nee Lander) who were married on the 22^nd December 1834 in Billingshurst, Sussex

In 1851 Jane’s parents William (38), an Innkeeper, Jane (39) and her siblings William (14), James (12), Elizabeth (3) and Alfred (1), were recorded living at The Jolliffe Arms, Merstham, Sussex. Jane (6) and her brother Andrew (8) were recorded in the household of their widowed uncle Thomas Lander (46), a Bricklayer, their grandmother Leah Lander (72), a Housekeeper and their cousin Emma Lander (12), at Coffins Row, Billingshurst, Sussex.

(Frederick George Obee was born in Chatham Kent c1843, the son of Thomas and Mary Ann Obee (nee Faulkner) who were married on the 15^th September 1828 in Strood near Rochester Kent).

Frederick and Jane had the following two children:

Frederick George born c1868 (died soon after birth)

Edith Jane 1870

In 1871 Frederick (28), a Shopman (Furniture ?), Jane (26) and Edith (9 months) were recorded living at New Covenant Place, Rochester, Kent. (Surname recorded as Abee on ancestry)

Frederick George died aged 36 in 1878 (death registered in Reigate, Surrey)

The 1881 census records Jane (36) and Edith (9) living with Jane’s parents at The Jolliffe Arms, Merstham, Surrey.

In 1891 Jane (46) was working as a Dressmaker, she was lodging at 36 High Street, Reigate, Surrey with her daughter Edith (20). (Surname recorded as Chee on ancestry)

Edith Jane married William Richard Davey on the 11^th August 1894 at St Mary, Reigate, Surrey.

The 1901 census records Jane (46), (as Edith Okee) living with her son-in-law William Davey (36), a Gas Engineer, her daughter Edith (30) and her grandchildren Leslie (5) and Frances (3), at “Davenport” Stanley Road, Newbury, Berkshire.

Jane died aged 63 on the 17^th March 1909, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20^th March.
