Hannah Whiting

Hannah was baptised in 1813 in Inkpen, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Susan Alderidge (nee Curr) who were married on the 18th February 1811 at St Michael, Inkpen, Berkshire (Susan was recorded as Susanna).
William and Susannah also had the following children:

William baptised in 1815 in Inkpen
Thomas baptised in 1818 in Stratfield Mortimer
Rebecca baptised in 1819 in Hungerford.
Hannah married John Whiting on the 23rd April 1837 at St Mary’s Church Thatcham, Berkshire.
(John was baptised on the 18th September 1808 in Thatcham, Berkshire, the son of Joseph and Sarah Whiting (nee Rowlan) who were married on the 20th December 1808 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (surname recorded as Whiteing).

Susan born 1844 (died aged 1 in 1845, name at death recorded as Sussanna, buried at St Mary Thatcham on the 31st July as Susannah aged 11 months)

In 1841 John (30), an Agricultural Labourer, Hannah (25), Joseph (4), Henry (2) and Elizabeth (1) were recorded living in Thatcham, Berkshire.
The 1851 census records John (42) as a Sugar Boiler (a sweet maker) living in Shaw’s Lane, Newbury, with Hannah (36), Joseph (13), Henry (12), Elizabeth (10), Sarah (8), Rebecca (5) and Thomas (3).
In 1861 John (53) a Sugar Boiler, Hannah (47) and their children Elizabeth (21), a Shoe Binder, Henry (22) a Baker, Rebecca (15), Thomas (13), Mary (7) and their granddaughter Bessey (4) (born Elizabeth, the illegitimate daughter of their daughter Elizabeth) living in West Mills, Newbury, Berkshire.
The 1871 census records John (63) as a Sugar Boiler living at 6 Shaw’s Lane, Newbury with Hannah (53), Thomas (23), a Labourer, Mary Ann (16), their married daughter Rebecca Laws (24), a Glove Maker and her son Charles Laws (5) (born Henry Charles).
John died aged 73 on the 20th January 1880 in the Newbury Workhouse, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 23rd January.
The 1881 census records Hannah (65) as Sarah living in West Mills, Newbury, Berkshire. Also recorded living with her was her son Henry (42), a Baker, her son-in-law Charles Lawes (50) (Laws), a Watercress Hawker, her grandson Henry Lawes (15) (Laws) and her granddaughter Sarah Cox (13) (daughter of her married daughter Elizabeth Joynson formerly Cox).
In 1891 Hannah (79) was living in Kennet Road, Newbury with her married daughter Elizabeth Joynson (50), a Sugar Boiler, her son-in-law Frederick Joynson (62), a Hawker and her son Henry (52), a Baker.
Hannah died aged 78 on the 2nd April 1896, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th April.
