Alice’s birth was registered as Alice Ann, she was baptised Alice Maude Mary on the 21st July 1861 in Southbroom with Bishops Canning, Wiltshire, the daughter of George (a Shoemaker) and Anne Oakford (nee Gay) who were married on the 21st October 1854 at Southbroom in the Chapel of St James, Wiltshire (as George Edward and Ann).

George and Ann also had the following children

Ellen Sophia born 1858            (both baptised 23rd May 1858 Anna Maria recorded as Fanny Maria)

Thomas Edward born 1864 baptised 24th December 1865

Charles James baptised 9th June 1867

In 1871 Alice (8) was living at the Nursery Canal Side, St James Devizes Wiltshire with her parents and siblings, Ellen (11), Thomas (6) and Charles (4).

The 1881 census records Alice (19) as a Housemaid in Hillsworth, St James, Devizes, for an Arthur Dorcas (37), a Prison Chaplain and his family.

Alice married in 1885.

The 1891 census records Alice (29) living at 22 Wharf Hill, Winchester, Hampshire, with her husband Thomas (26), a Railway Goods Checker, and her daughters Florence (5), Emily (3) and Edith (1).

In 1901 Alice (38), Thomas (36), a Railway Porter Forman and their children Florence (15), Edith (11), Emily (3), Thomas (9), Ellen (6) and May (3), were living in Lechlade Road, Faringdon, Berkshire. (Surname recorded as Guel on ancestry)

By 1908 the family were living in Jubilee Road, Newbury, Berkshire.

Edith Agnes died aged 19 in 1908, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th November.

The 1911 census records Alice (48), Thomas (47), a Railway Shunter, Emily (24), a Laundry Assistant, William Thomas (19), Iron Moulder (Foundry), Helen Beatrice (16) (Ellen), a Drapery Shop Assistant, May Ethel (13), Ernest George (9) and a boarder, John Davis (26), a Railway Clerk, living at 2 Alpha Cottages, Jubilee Road, Newbury.

The 1921 census records Alice, Thomas, their children William, Ellen, May and Ernest, their daughter-in-law Elsie (wife of William) and their grandson Arthur, living in Jubilee Road, Newbury.

Alice Maude Mary Guy died aged 73 in 1934, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th September

The 1939 register records Thomas as Retire Railway Servant, living in Rotherstone, Devizes, Wiltshire.

Thomas William Guy died aged 75 in 1940 in Devizes District Hospital, his body was brought to Newbury and he as laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th May.
