William Jefferies/Jeffries
1825-1895
William Jefferies was born in Berkshire, he was baptised on the 31st July 1825 at St Mary, Kintbury, the son of Thomas and Jane Jeffries (nee Edwards) who were married on the 16th May 1820 in Kintbury.
Thomas and Jane also had the following children baptised at St Mary Kintbury:

In 1841 William Jefferis (16) and his sister Ann (19) were working as servants for an Elizabeth Fowle aged 35, in Kintbury.

The 1861 census records William Jeffries (35) as a Coachman living in Great Milton, Oxfordshire with Betty (49) (recorded as Elizabeth).
In 1871 William Jeffries (45) and Betty (50) (again recorded as Elizabeth) were recorded living in North Street, Marcham, Berkshire.
The 1881 census records Betty (64) (again recorded as Elizabeth) and William Jefferies (55), a Fly Driver, living with William’s widowed sister Louisa Wootten (50) and her son Frederick (20), a Fly Driver, at The Pelican, Speenhamland, Berkshire.
Betty Jefferies died aged 72 on the 21st November 1887, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th November.
In 1891 William Jeffries (65) was recorded as a Retired Coachman, living with his widowed sister Louisa Wootten (60) who was living On Own Means, at Ashleigh, Craven Road, Newbury.
William Jeffries died aged 69 on the 29th June 1895, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd July with his wife Betty, his brother-in-law Elijah Wootten (buried 1877), his sister Louisa Wootten (buried 1902), and his nephews Frederick Wootten (buried 1888) and Joseph Wootten (buried 1884).
