Sarah Alway

c1821-1854

Sarah was baptised on the 22^nd July 1821 at St Mary Thatcham, Berkshire, the daughter of Daniel and Frances Alway (nee Northway) who were married on the 27^th December 1817 at St Mary Thatcham, Berkshire.

Daniel and Frances also had the following children:

Matilda baptised 3^rd October 1819 at St Mary Thatcham

Jesse baptised 14^th December 1823 at St Mary (The Minster) Reading (surname mistakenly recorded as Holloway)

Henry baptised 7^th June 1829 at St Mary (The Minster) Reading

Emily baptised 13^th May 1832 at St Nicolas Newbury (surname mistakenly recorded as Holloway)

Mary Ann baptised 5^th July 1835 at St Nicolas Newbury

Sarah’s mother Frances was born on the 9^th November 1796, she was baptised on the 27^th November 1796 (with her twin brother Oswald) at St Mary Thatcham, Berkshire, the daughter of Oswald and Sarah Northway (nee Fisher) who were married on the 23^rd September 1776 at St Mary Thatcham. Frances died aged 75 in 1869, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26^th November.

Sarah’s father Daniel was a Carpenter/Wheelwright. He was baptised on the 24^th January 1791 at Bucklebury Berkshire, the son of Thomas and Sarah Alway (nee Clarke) who were married on the 27^th October 1788 at St Mary Bucklebury. Daniel died aged 84 on the 13^th August 1873 at Northcroft Lane, Newbury (the home of his daughter Emily and her 2^nd husband John Cooper), he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16^th August.

In 1841 Sarah (15) was recorded living in Back Lane, Newbury with her parents and siblings.

The 1851 census records Sarah (27) lodging in Shaws Lane, Newbury with a widower, Watson Shall, his three children and a William Brown (35).

Sarah died aged 32 in 1854 (surname registered as Allaway at time of death), she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21^st June.
