David Robert Adams

1857-1859

David Robert was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Andrew and Emily Adams (nee Alway) who were married in 1854 (marriage registered in Newbury).

His father Andrew was baptised on the 11^th October 1829 at St Nicolas Newbury, the son of Robert (a Shoemaker) and Martha Adams (nee Ball) who were married on the 28^th June 1829 at St Mary Thatcham, Berkshire. He was recorded as a Groom in 1851 and Bricklayer’s Labourer in 1861.

His mother Emily was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Daniel and Frances Alway (nee Northway) who were married on the 27^th December 1817 at St Mary Thatcham, Berkshire.

David died aged 1 in 1859, buried in the NRC on the 11^th February

Andrew and Emily also had the following two sons, Henry born 1855 and William born 1862 (died aged 3 in 1865, buried in the NRC on the 31^st March).

The 1861 census records Andrew (29), Emily (26) and their son Henry (6) living in St Mary’s Hill, Newbury.

Andrew died aged 35 in 1864, he was buried in the NRC on the 19^th August.

Emily remarried in 1867, her 2^nd husband was a widower, John Cooper.

(John was born in Basildon, Berkshire, the son of John and Elizabeth Cooper (nee Champ) who were married on the 30^th November 1835 in Hampstead Norris, Berkshire. He married Emma Perris (nee Bradley) in 1862. They had a daughter Sophia born in 1862. John was widowed in 1866)

In 1871 John and Emily had a son Thomas William born in 1867.

The 1871 census records John (30) as a Bricklayer’s Labourer, living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury with Emily (37), Sophia (7) and Thomas William (3). Emily’s son Henry was recorded living with his grandfather Daniel Alway.

Emily died aged 40 in 1873, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28^th June.

John went on to marry for the 3^rd time in 1878, his 3^rd wife was a widow, Martha Kewell. They had a son Frederick William born in 1879.

John died aged 53 in 1891 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6^th April.

Martha died aged 65 on the 29^th June 1905 in the Workhouse Infirmary, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3^rd July.
