Mary Anne was born in Somerset, she was baptised on the 2nd March 1856 in Donyatt, Somerset, the daughter of Frederic Edward Lockyer (a Shopkeeper) and Mary Anne Sharp (nee Lee).

Her father Frederic was baptised on the 5th September 1833 in Lyme-Regis Dorset, the son of Frederic John and Clara Sharp (nee Swan) who were married on the 3rd July 1829 in Wiltshire.

 Her mother Mary Anne was born on the 16th January 1831, she was baptised on the 5th May 1833 in Bickenhall Somerset, along with her brother William James,  the children of John and Rachael Lee (nee Flood) who were married in 1831 in Curry Mallet, Somerset

Frederic and Mary were married on the 6th April 1854 at St George, Camberwell. Frederic was recorded as a Gentleman on the marriage certificate. Frederic’s father Frederic John was also recorded as a Gentleman, Mary’s father John was recorded as a Farmer

Frederic, Mary Anne and their daughter Mary Anne moved to Indiana USA sometime between 1856 and 1858. They had two more children both were born in Indiana. Annie Lee was born on the 27th November 1858 and Henry Clayton was born c1863.

The 1860 Indiana census record records Frederic (28) as a Farmer, living  in Helt Township, Vermillion, Indiana with his wife Mary (29) and their two daughters Mary (5) and Annie (2)

Mary Anne’s parents both died in 1866. Frederic died on the 24th July in Charmouth, Dorset, England and Mary Anne died on the 12th November in Indiana she was buried in Trowbridge Cemetery, Hillsdale, Vermillion, Indiana.

 After their parents died Mary Anne, Annie Lee and Henry Clayton were made Wards of Court, they were adopted by William Henry and Agnes Hardy (nee Corden). (Although they were adopted, they continued to use the surname Sharp)

Annie Lee and Henry Clayton Sharp were baptised on the 15th June 1867 at Holy Trinity, Finchley, Middlesex. The baptism record records their father as Frederic Edward Lockyer Sharp, a Gentleman.

 

The 1871 census records Mary (15), her sister Annie (12) and brother Henry (7) as the adopted children of William and Agnes Hardy, living in High Road, Finchley, Middlesex.

In 1881 Mary (25) was recorded living in Torrington Park, Friern Barnet, Middlesex with William Hardy (51), a Chartered Accountant, her sister Annie (22) and two servants.

Mary married Edward Forrest in 1887.

In 1891 Mary (35) and Edward (27) a Gas and Electric Engineer, were living in the High Street, Orpington, Kent.

Mary died aged 54 on the 19th October 1909 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st October. (Also buried with her were her widowed sister Annie Lee Alleyne (buried 1944) and Annie’s brother-in-law Hubert D Alleyne (buried 1929)).

Mary Anne’s adopted mother Agnes Hardy died on the 12th September 1910 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th September.
