Edmund Willis was born circa 1835 in Newbury, the son of John and Denny, nee Reeves, Willis. He married Jane Gough in 1858 in Newbury. Jane was born circa 1837 in Newbury, the daughter of Edward and Letitia, nee Shopcott, Gough. Edmund and Jane had fourteen known children, all born in Newbury as listed below.

In the 1871 census Edmund and Jane were living in Crown Court in Newbury with six children. Ten years later in 1871 Jane was recorded still at Crown Court with seven children. Edmund was recorded in Kensington with his brother Richard and his family. Both Edmund and Jane were living in Kensington in 1891 along with four children. Four of the children died young. John died in September 1861 and was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 27 September 1861. Edmund died in March 1867 and was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 25 March 1867. A daughter Letitia Laura sadly died aged only 2 months in April 1870 and was buried on 19 April 1870 at Newtown Road Cemetery.
Another son Walter died aged 16 months on 11 June 1874 and was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 15 June 1874. An announcement appeared in the Newbury Weekly News of 18 June 1874 and also the Reading Observer of 20 June 1874 which read as below. WILLIS — June 11, at Crown Court, Newbury, Walter, son of Edmund and Jane Willis, aged 16 months.
Edmund and Jane remained living in Kensington and died there in 1903 and 1915 respectively.
