Alfred Rontree

1848-1850

Alfred John Robert Rontree was born 1848 in Newbury, the son of Thomas and Ann Rontree (nee Fort) who were married on the 4^th May 1839 in Leeds Yorkshire.

Alfred died aged 2 in 1850, he was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30^th April. (His death was registered as Alfred Bonfree)

Alfred’s father Thomas Rontree was baptised 9^th November 1816 at St Michael New Malton Yorkshire, the son of Thomas and Jane Rontree (nee Dale) who were married on the 7^th March 1806 at St Michael New Malton Yorkshire.

Alfred’s mother Ann Fort was born on the 31^st January and baptised 15^th March 1812 at St Peter Leeds Yorkshire, the daughter of Mark and Mary Ann Fort (nee Alsop) who were married on the 18^th May 1807 at St Peter Leeds. (Ann’s surname was spelt Foart on the baptism record and her mother was recorded as Ann)

Thomas and Ann also had the following children:

Sarah Jane born 1841 in Leeds

Caroline born c1845 in Leeds

George Alfred born 1850 in Newbury (died aged 18 months buried (as George) on the 29^th February 1852 at St Mary the Virgin Speen)

Alice born c1854 in Newbury

The 1841 census records Thomas (25) and Ann (25) living in Francis Court, Leeds. Thomas was recorded as a Sadler.

The 1851 census records Thomas (34), as a Sadler living with Ann (35), Sarah Jane (9), Caroline (6) and George (7 months) at Hazells Court, Speenhamland, Berkshire (surname recorded as Ronbree on ancestry)

Caroline died aged 12, her death was recorded in the March quarter 1857 in Richmond Surrey.  Later that year Thomas, Ann and their two daughters Sarah Jane and Alice emigrated to Australia arriving in Fremantle Western Australia on the convict ship “Nile” on the 1^st January 1858
