Henry Smith (1835 — 1904)  Elizabeth Smith (1836 — 1924)
Henry Smith was born in Newbury circa 1836, son of Edmund Smith and Sarah Gallaway. In the 1841 census he was living with his parents and sister Harriet aged 3 and brother Edward aged 1 in Northbrook Street in Newbury. His father Edmund was a coach trimmer. Ten years later in 1851 Henry, his parents and brothers Edward aged 10 and William aged 8 were living in Dredges Yard in Newbury. Edmund was still a coach trimmer and Henry was recorded as an errand boy.
Elizabeth Sheppard was born in Newbury circa 1836, probably the daughter of Joseph and Ann Sheppard. In the 1841 census she was living with her parents and four siblings in Bartholomew Street in Newbury. Her father Joseph was a tailor. Ten years later in the 1.851 census Elizabeth was living as a servant in West Street in Newbury, the head of the house was Mary Sewell a widow and dressmaker.
Henry and Elizabeth married in Q4 1854 in Newbury.
In the 1861 census Henry and Elizabeth with three children, Frederick aged 6, Fanny Caroline aged 2 and Mary Ann aged a few months were living with in Winscombe Place in Newbury with Henry recorded as a coach trimmer journeyman.
Ten years later in the 1871 census Henry and Elizabeth, son Frederick Henry aged 16 and daughters Fanny Caroline aged 12, Mary Ann aged 10 and Sarah Elizabeth aged 7 were living at Alton Place, Magdala Terrace in Newbury. Henry and Frederick were both recorded as coach trimmers.
In the 1881 census Henry and Elizabeth with daughters Mary Ann aged 20 & Sarah Elizabeth aged 17 were residing at 137 Bartholomew Street in Newbury. Henry was still a coach trimmer and both Sarah & Mary Ann were recorded as dressmakers.
Henry & Elizabeth's daughter Sarah Elizabeth married Francis Herbert Stillman on 26 August 1884 at St Nicolas in Newbury.
Henry and Elizabeth were still residing at 137 Bartholomew Street in 1891 with Henry still a coach trimmer. Ten years later in 1901 Henry and Elizabeth are living at Bevandene in Craven Road with Henry recorded as a retired harness maker.

The Newbury Weekly News edition of 9 June 1904 reported the death of Henry at his home Bevandene in Craven Road on 7 June 1904. Henry was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 11 June 1904. He left a will and probate was granted to his widow Elizabeth on 22 July 1904 at Oxford. The value of the estate was £181 Os 2d.

Elizabeth is living at 32 Craven Road in the 1911 census along with a servant Kate Wilson aged 48 and single who was born in Ramsgate in Kent. Kate is recorded as a companion and domestic help.
Elizabeth died 7 January 1924 and was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 10 January 1924. At the time of her death she was living at 22 Gloucester Road in Newbury.

Henry and Elizabeth's daughter Sarah Elizabeth Stillman was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 14 May 1942.
