William Harman Smith and Charlotte Smith, nee Liley
c1819-1896
William was born in Haddon Northamptonshire he married Charlotte Liley in Islington London in 1839. Charlotte was born c1821 in London.
William and Charlotte had the following children:

William George 1844 (birth registered in Towcester)
Thomas Henry 1850 (birth registered in Doncaster (in the counties of York and Nottingham)
Charlotte Jane 1851 (birth registered in Daventry)
Twins: Joseph and Helen (aka Ellen) 1854 (births registered in Newbury)
Lee 1859 (birth registered in Newbury)
In 1851 William was working as a Butler for a Mr Leonard Thompson at Breckon Hill Sheriff Hutton Yorkshire. Charlotte was living at Old Parsonage House Warmsworth Yorkshire with her children William George (7) and Thomas Henry (9 months) Charlotte was recorded as an Annuitant in this census.
The 1861 census records the family living at the Post Office Chieveley, William (40) was recorded as a Butler and Charlotte (40) was recorded as a Post Mistress.
The 1871 census records William working as a Butler at Priors Court Chieveley for a Mary Wasey (75). Charlotte (51) was recorded in this census as a Post Mistress and Shopkeeper in Cheiveley her children Thomas Henry (20), Charlotte Jane (19) and Lee (12) were recorded living with her Thomas was recorded as a Confectioner and Charlotte was recorded as an Assistant in Shop.
The family were still living at the Post Office in Chieveley in 1881. William (61) was recorded as a Post Master (C S O).
Charlotte died aged 68 on the 24th September 1887 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th September.
The 1891 census records William (70) as a Retired Butler living at 11 Carnarvon Street Newbury, his daughter Charlotte (39) was still living at home with him. He died aged 77 on the 12th December 1896 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th December.
