Martha was born in Newbury the daughter of Charles and Eliza King (nee Milsom/Milson). Her father Charles was born c1808 in Newbury.

Her mother Eliza was born c1814 in Melksham Wiltshire

(No marriage found for her parents yet!)

Ellen 1860 (died aged 3 in 1864, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th January. (She has been mistakenly recorded as Eliza in the Cemetery Accounts Book. Death registered as Ellen King, also recorded on NBI as Ellen King))

In 1841 Charles (25), Eliza (25) and their son Charles (1) were living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury Berkshire. Charles was working as a Whitesmith.

The 1851 census records the family living in Gibbs Yard, Newbury. Charles (40) was recorded as a Smith/Pauper.

Martha died aged 3+ months in 1855, she was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th April

By 1861 her parents were recorded living separately.

The 1861 census records her father Charles (52) as an Almsman, formerly a Whitesmith, living in Church Almshouses, Newbury with her brother Alfred (14).  Her mother Eliza (44), a Laundress and her sisters Mary Ann (19), Eliza (17), Jane (8) and Ellen (1) were recorded living in Webb’s Yard, Northbrook Street, Newbury.

Her father Charles died aged 53 in 1861, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th October.
