Augustus Angel Roake
He was born in 1829 in Reading, a son of James White and Mary Roake. He was baptised on 14 June 1829 at St. Lawrence, Reading. His father was a Draper, Haberdasher and Hosier. In 1851 he was an Assistant Draper working for Thomas Thorpe, a Linen Draper in the High Street, Rye. By 1861 he had moved to Newbury where he was trading as a Draper at 14 Bartholomew Street employing two assistants. His brother John Joseph Roake - a Pawnbroker and Clothier - and his large family are living next door and their father James White Roake, now a Proprietor of Houses, is living at Upland Villas, Newtown Road. In the same year he married Hannah, a sister of William George Adey. He died suddenly aged 37 years on 10 May 1866 and he was buried on 15 May 1866.
