Joseph Rand was born in 1792. His first wife was Anne 1782 to 1843 and his second wife was Mary 1814 to 1891.

Joseph Rand died on the 17th of March 1865 in the marketplace at Newbury.  He was an optician and cause of death was ramolissement of the brain/ paralysis.

They lived at cheap street and he had a shop as an optician in the marketplace . He was a philosophical instrument maker and a worker in metal.

They were members of the Society of friends and are buried in the Anglican area?.

He left under 300 pounds to Mary Rand, the widow, who took over as an optician and ran the business for 20 years or more . Mary Rand was born in nottingford Hampshire in 1813 .

Mary Rand died in 1891 and they are buried in the same grave . The inscription is obliterated but the footstone says J R 1864 and M R 1891
