1866-1930

Jane was born in 1866 (birth registered in Cookham) the daughter of George and Fanny Lovelock (nee House) who were married in 1861 (marriage registered in Romsey).

Her mother Fanny was baptised on the 26th June 1831 at St Mary the Virgin, Marlborough, Wiltshire, the daughter of William and Fanny House (nee Moulding) who were married on the 17th October 1813 at St Andrew, Holborn, Middlesex.

Her father George was born in Sandleford, Berkshire, he was baptised in 1835 in Newbury, the son of William and Hannah Lovelock (nee Knapp) who were married in 1824 in Reading.

George and Fanny also had the following children:

George William House born 1861 birth registered in Devizes (died 1861)

Fanny House born in 1863 birth registered in Easthampstead

Emmeline House born c1865 birth registered in Bradfield

William Henry born c1871 birth registered in Wantage

Elgar George born 1873 birth registered in Newbury

Mary Ann born 1875 birth registered in Nuneaton (died 1877)

 

In 1861 Jane’s parents Fanny (28) and George (27), a Draper were living at 15 Northgate Street, Devizes, Wiltshire.

The 1871 census records Jane (4) living at Coomb Farm House, Brightwaltham, Berkshire with her parents Fanny (39) and George (37), (a Farm Bailiff to a John Rowles) and her siblings, Fanny (7) and William H (7 months).

In 1881 Jane (14), her parents Fanny (48) and George (45) and her siblings Fanny (17), a Dressmaker, Emmeline (16), a Dressmaker, William H (10) and Elgar G (7) were recorded living in Langley Mairsh Buckinghamshire.

In 1901 Jane (34) was recorded as a Housekeeper living in the High Street, Putney, London. Her widowed mother Fanny (67), her sister Fanny (37) and her brother William (30) were living at 1 Claremont Villas, Kingston upon Thames Surrey,

Jane (42) was recorded in the 1911 census still working as a Housekeeper in the High Street Putney London. Her mother Fanny (79) was recorded as an Old Age Pensioner living at 49 Bruce Road, Harlesden, Willesden, Middlesex with her daughter Fanny (47). Also recorded in the household, as visitors, were Jane’s brother Elgar George (37) an Electric Tram Driver, his wife Florence Amy (31) and their son George Elgar E Lovelock (4).

Jane’s mother Fanny died aged 80 on the 8th March 1913 at 49 Bruce Road, Willesden, her body was brought to Newbury and she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th March with her sister Emmeline House (buried 1856) and her brother Cornelius House (buried 1865).

Jane Ellen died aged 63 on the 3rd June 1930 in Harlesden Middlesex, her body was brought to Newbury and she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th June. (Also mentioned on her headstone are her sisters Fanny House Lovelock who died in 1936 and Emmeline House Gristwood who died in 1947)

 

Probate: Lovelock Jane Ellen of 49 Bruce-road Harlesden Middlesex spinster died 3rd June 1930 at the General Hospital Willesden Middlesex Probate London 9th August to William Henry Lovelock gardener. Effects: £462 3s 7d
