Charlotte Naylor (1797 — 1872)
Charlotte Titcomb was born circa 1797 in Newbury. She married Benjamin Soper on 21 May 1821 at St Nicolas in Newbury. A son George was born circa 1822 and he is also buried in Newtown Road Cemetery with his two wives (Ann & Sarah) and two of his sons (Albert & Walter).
Benjamin died September 1828 aged 29 & was buried 4 October 1.828 at St Nicolas in Newbury. Charlotte remarried on 22 May 1.831 at St Mary in Thatcham to Thomas Naylor.
In the 1841 census Thomas & Charlotte were recorded living in West Mills in Newbury with daughter Martha, Charlotte's son George Soper & a servant Ann Cumbler. Thomas was recorded as a paper maker.
Thomas died March 1850 & was buried 25 March 1850 at St Nicolas in Newbury.
In the 1851 census Charlotte was living at 20 Jack of Newbury Street in Newbury with her daughter Martha & her husband Francis Haines. Charlotte was recorded as formerly a charwoman.
In the 1861 census Charlotte was living by herself in Old Road in Newbury & recorded as a charwoman.
When the 1871 census was compiled Charlotte was living in King Johns Almhouses in Newbury with a nurse Hannah Hilliard aged 71 & also a widow.
Charlotte died 2 November 1872 in Newbury Workhouse and was buried 5 November 1872 at Newtown Road Cemetery.
