  Jane’s place of birth has been recorded as Greenham and Yattendon in census records.

 Jane married Charles Bellinger in 1840.

Marriage details:

Place: St Peter and St Paul’s Church Yattendon Berkshire.

Date: 28th December 1840

Groom: Charles Bellinger, bachelor, abode, Greenham

Bride: Jane Butt, spinster, abode, Yattendon

Fathers: David Bellinger and James Whernam

Witnesses: Richard Briant and Elisabeth Wells

 

(Possible baptism for Jane in Ashampstead: Jean Wornham Butt, 1808, mother, Olif.  A James Wernham married an Olive Butt in 1812 in Ashampstead (approximately 4 miles from Yattendon)

James and Olive had the following children baptised in Yattendon: George 1812, John and Oliver 1815 and Richard 1817)

 

Charles and Jane had a daughter Elizabeth born c1842.

 

Charles worked as an Agricultural/Farm Labourer/Labourer.

 

In the 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 census records the family were recorded living in Greenham Common Berkshire, the 1881 census record them living in the Common Cottage, Greenham.

The 1841 census records Jane aged 20

The 1851 census records her as Mary J aged 40

The 1861 census records her as Mary aged 48

 The 1871 census records her as Mary aged 60

The 1881 census records her as Mary aged 70

The 1891 census records her as Mary aged 80

 

Jane was widowed in 1885. Charles died aged 75 he was buried on the 8th April at St Mary Greenham.

 

In 1891 Mary was still living in Greenham Common and was recorded in the census for this year as living on her “Own Means”.

 

Jane died aged 81 on the 21st January 1892 in the Newbury Workhouse, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th January.
