George Young
c1835-1899
According to census records George and his twin brother Henry were born in either Speen, Woodspeen or Stockcross Berkshire, the sons of William and Emma Young (nee Jones) who were married on the 26th July 1824 at St Luke Chelsea London (both were single).
Their father William was an Agricultural Labourer, he was born c1789 in Eastbury Berkshire. He died aged 81 in 1867 (death registered in Newbury)
Their mother Emma was born c1809 in Wellington Shropshire. She died aged 96 in 1890 (death registered in Newbury)
The 1841 census records William (50), Emma (40) and their children James (13), Ann (13) (Mary Ann) William (10), Caroline (8) and Henry and George (4) in the Newbury Workhouse.
The 1851 census records George and Henry (10) living in Lewis’s Buildings, Bartholomew Street, Newbury with their parents William (62) and Emma (42), their sisters Mary Ann (23), Caroline (16), Sarah (7), their nephew John Young (2) and a lodger, Job Palmer 24).
In 1861 George (21) was recorded as an Agricultural Labour, living in Factory Yard, Speen, Berkshire with his parents William (72) and Emma (68) and sisters, Caroline (22) and Sarah (16). Job Palmer was still lodging with the family.
In 1871 George and Henry were both working as Agricultural Labourers, they were living in Woodspeen, Berkshire with their widowed mother Emma (75) who was working as a Washerwoman.
The 1881 census records George (36) as a Labourer, living with his mother Emma (76) in Fidlers Cottages, Speen, Berkshire.
In 1891 George (56) was recorded as a Grave Digger, living at 4 Fidlers Buildings, Speen, Berkshire.
George died aged 64 on the 12th September 1899, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th September.
