Copas family background — Sarah Copas
Sarah 1845-1914 was the eighth child of James and Mary, nee Witts. She was born in Thatcham, Berkshire and married James Leader in 1874. They had two children — Rose Elizabeth 1877-1944. She married Frederick Warwick 1882-1916. He was a Mail cart driver. He was killed in action with the Machine Gun Corps and his grave is at the Bellacourt Military Cemetery in France. They had a son, Frederick James 1908-1977, who married Phyllis Doreen Bowman 1909-2005 from Theale, in 1932. Mary born 1885, married William Charles Haines, also born 1885, from Greenham, who was a GPO postman. James Leader was the first of three children born to Henry and Sarah, nee Deavin. The family lived in Kintbury, Berkshire. He was listed as a Surgeon's Coachman in the 1881 Census and Borough Scavenger (responsible for keeping the streets clean) in the 1901 Census. He was living at 6 New Market Street, Newbury when he died.
These people are buried in Newtown Road Cemetery.
