George Smith
1838-1915
George was born in Stockcross Berkshire the son of Mark and Eliza(beth) Smith (nee Watts) who were married on the 2nd July 1827 in Speen berkshire.
His father Mark was born c1800 in Speen and was an Agricultural Labourer/Labourer. He died aged 89 in 1889 and was buried on the 21st June at St Mary the Virgin Speen.
His mother Eliza was born c1804 in Peasmore.
In 1841 George (2) was living in Woodspeen, Berkshire with his parents Mark (40) and Eliza (40) and Martha Smith (65), George Smith (25) and Isaac Smith (13).
In 1851 Mark (47), Eliza (48) and George (11) were living in Benham Village.

George was recorded as a Groom in 1861, a General Labourer in 1871, a Gardener in 1881, a Groom (not Domestic) in 1891 and a Domestic Coachman in 1901
The family were recorded living in St John’s Place, Speen in 1861, Speenhamland in 1871 and 1881 and Goswell Row, Speen in 1891. George and Mary were still living in Goswell Row in 1901 but by 1911 they had moved to 12 Church Almshouses, Newtown Road, Newbury.
George died aged 75 on the 11th March 1915 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 13th March. (Abode at time of death: 12 Church Almshouses, Newbury)
Mary Ann died aged 81 on the 30th December 1920 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st January 1921 in the same grave as George. (Abode at time of death: 5 Trafalgar Place, Newbury)
Their son Willie died aged 67 on the 15th October 1929, he was laid to rest with his parents on the 19th October. (Abode at time of death: 5 Trafalgar Place, Newbury)
