Friends of Newtown Road Cemetery

James LAWRENCE was born c1821 in Newbury(?), the son of Samuel LAWRENCE (mother's name not known). No birth registration available nor christening found to date. James was working at a farm in Wash Common in 1841. census. He married Rose Hannah (Rosanna) CARTER in Newbury during 1864 and they had three boys, the youngest, Charles (my grandfather) was born the day after James' death. The other boys were 2 and 4 years of age

James died in 1869 from Hamoptysis 5 minutes and Pthisis 12 months at the age of 48. The family was living at West Mills, Newbury at the time. Rosanna registered the death

His funeral service was held at St. Nicolas Church, Newbury and he was buried in Newtown Road Cemetery  in August 1869
