Charles King
c1808-1861
Charles was born in Newbury, he “married” Eliza ? (born c1814 in Melksham Wiltshire). (No marriage found yet!).
They had the following children (all born in Newbury, mother’s maiden name recorded as Milsom/Milson on children’s birth registrations):

Martha c1855 (died aged 3+ months in 1855, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 23rd or 28th April)
Ellen 1860 (died aged 3 in 1864, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th January. She has been mistakenly recorded as Eliza in the Cemetery Accounts Book. Death registered as Ellen King, also recorded on NBI as Ellen King)
In 1841 Charles (25), Eliza (25) and their son Charles (1) were living in Northcroft Lane, Newbury Berkshire. Charles was working as a Whitesmith.
The 1851 census records the family living in Gibbs Yard, Newbury. Charles (40) was recorded as a Smith/Pauper.
By 1861 Charles and Eliza were recorded living separately, Charles (52) was living in Church Almshouses, he was recorded as an Almsman, formerly a Whitesmith. His son Alfred (14) was recorded living with him. Eliza (44) was recorded as a Laundress living in Webb’s Yard, Northbrook Street, Newbury. Her daughters Mary Ann (19), Eliza (17), Jane (8) and Ellen (1) were recorded living with her.
Charles died aged 53 in 1861, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th October.
