Jane Windebank was born in Hampshire, she was baptised on the 27th June 1830 in Basingstoke the daughter of Richard & Mary Windebank (nee Randall) who were married in Alton on the 17th July 1823.

The 1841 census records Jane living with her grandparents George & Martha Windebank in Alton. In 1851 she was working as a House Servant at 53 High Street, Guilford, Surrey for a Mr George Austin, a Retired Grocer.

She married Gilbert Jones on the 5th November 1854 at St Mary’s, Guilford, Surrey. Gilbert (31) was a Publican and Jane (24) was a Servant. Both were of the parish of St Mary. Fathers were Hugh Jones, a Chemist and Richard Windebank, a Carrier. Witnesses were Jane’s brother Henry Windebank and sister Ann Ames.  Bride and Groom both signed.

By 1861 Jane & Gilbert had three children, Gilbert born c1856, Emma Jane born 1858 and Rosa born 1861, the family were living in Newbury (22 West Street) and Gilbert was working as a Corn Dealer’s Clerk.

Their daughter Rosa died aged 1 in 1862 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th June. The following year Jane gave birth to another daughter, Helen Biggs.

Jane’s husband died aged 39 in 1865, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th January. Her son Gilbert died aged 9 the same year, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th July.

In 1871 Jane and her two daughters were living in Union Chapel Yard, Newbury and Jane was working as a Laundress, she died aged 44 in 1872 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th March.
