Emma Bulpit  1855-1855

 

Emma was born in Newbury in 1855, the daughter of Joseph (an Agricultural Labourer) and Mary Ann Bulpit  (formerly Langfield, nee Hamblin) who were married in 1852 in Newbury. (both were widowed).

 

(Emma’s father Joseph was born in Berkshire he was baptised on the 25th August 1805 in Enborne, the son of John and Sarah Bulpit (nee Smith) who were married on the 15th January 1799 at St Mary the Virgin Marlborough Wiltshire.

He married Elizabeth Chater (Cheater) in Speen in 1826 (Elizabeth was born c1800 in Ecchinswell Hampshire). They had at least 3 children, Alfred born c1829, Elizabeth born 1837 and Joseph born 1841 (died aged 7 weeks). Elizabeth died aged 52 in 1851.)

 

(Emma’s mother Mary Ann was born c1816 in Newbury, the daughter of Joseph and Martha Hamblin (nee Britton) who were married on the 4th October 1814 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

She married James Prince Langfield in 1841 (James was born c1814 in Newbury, the son of Samuel and Betsey Langfield (nee Prince) who married on the 18th June 1811 at St Nicolas Church Newbury).

They had the five children, Laura born 1842, James Joseph born 1843, Mary Ann born 1845, John born 1847 and Rose born 1848. Sadly only Laura survived to adulthood.

Mary Ann’s husband James died aged 34 in 1849 he was laid to rest on the 19th February at St Nicolas Newbury.)

 

Joseph and Mary Ann also had a son Edmund born in 1853 in Newbury.

 

Emma’s mother died just after giving birth to Emma she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th July 1855.

 

Emma died aged 17 days, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 13th July 1855.

 

The 1861 census records Emma’s father Joseph (64) living in Enborne Gate. His married daughter (from his first marriage) Elizabeth Collins (23), son-in-law Emmanuel Collins (23), a Machine Maker and his granddaughter Elizabeth Collins (2 months, born 13th February 1861) were recorded living with him.

 

The 1871 census records Joseph (70) as a Farm Labourer, living alone in Enborne Gate.

 

Joseph died (age at death recorded as 79) on the 17th October 1879 in the Newbury Workhouse he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd October.
