George Kennerick North
Born in 1858 in Wilton, Wilts. to George and Mary Ann North

On 1861 census living on South Street, Wilton, siblings Amelia 10 yrs., Elizabeth 4 yrs. and Frank 1 mth. His father was a Police Inspector.

In 1871 they were living at 14 Devizes road, Swindon; his father was now a Police Superintendant. There was another brother Frederick Charles and they had a servant aged 16yrs, Elizabeth Flippance. born in Wilts.

By 1881 they were living at the Police Station, 10 Eastcott Lane, Swindon.

George Kennerick was a Railway Booking Clerk, Frank a Railway Stores Clerk, William a Railway Booking Clerk, Frederick a Railway Clerk and there was a sister Louisa aged 8. They also had a servant Jeanette Hussey, aged 17, who had been born in Cwmbran, Monmouthshire. Also on the census form were two prisoners.

George Kennerick married Stella Higgs in December 1881 in Highworth.

By 1891 he was a Railway Station Master living at Belmont Villa, Station Road, Whistley, Twyford.

They had 3 children Stella, age 8yrs., born in Swindon, Frances age 7yrs, born in Highworth and George K aged 5yrs, born in Castle Cary. This suggests that in the early part of their marriage they moved about with the job.

They also had a servant Florence Gearing aged 15 yrs. who had been born in Hurst, Berks.

By 1901 George Kennerick was the Newbury’s Railway Station Master, a post he held for 21 yrs. He was living at 2 Cheap street, Newbury with his wife Stella, daughter Stella ( single), Frances age 17yrs, a milliner’s assistant, George Kennerick Charles aged 15, an apprentice Marine Engineer. A niece, Eliza, was also recorded on the census form aged 15, a milliner’s apprentice.

 

Stella, his wife, died in 1902 aged 45yrs. George K was a widower on the 1911 census, still the Station Master in Newbury living at Clarewood, Porchester Road, Newbury. His daughter Stella aged 28 was also living with him.

 

The father George Kenerrick North was Initiated into Hope Lodge 4 april 1901 and made master in 1912,  He initiated his son 1 oct. 1912 at the age of 27

 

His son became an invalid at some stage and died at Caerleon Asylum, Newprt 20 jan 1919

Headstone for Stella which mentions their son Geroge Kennerick Charles who died in 1919 age 33 yrs .and Frances who died in1943 unmarried.
