Ann Bird was born in Maidenhead Berkshire. She married John Wheeler on the 20th October 1811 at St Mary Greenham Berkshire.

John and Ann had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury:

Twins, Sarah and Ann and another daughter Jane, baptised 26th November 1815 (father recorded as a Cheese Factor)

Thomas, baptised 24th August 1817 (father recorded as a Cheese Factor)

Caroline Amelia, baptised 19th July 1820 (father recorded as a Shopkeeper)

Charles, baptised 10th April 1822 (father recorded as a Shopkeeper)

Sylvia, baptised 8th December 1824 (father recorded as a Shopkeeper)

Arthur, baptised 3rd December 1826 (father recorded as a Shopkeeper)

Frances, baptised 18th January 1830 (father recorded as a Shopkeeper)

 

In 1815 John (28), Ann (28) and their twin daughters, Sarah and Ann aged 1, were living in John Hawkins’s Yard Newbury (the twins were born in Greenham.)

The 1841 census records John Wheeler (50) as a Grocer, living in Northbrook Street Newbury with his wife Ann (50) a Grocer and their children, Sarah (25) a Shop Woman, Thomas (15) a Clerk, Caroline ( 15), Charles (15),  Sylvia (15), Arthur (12) and Frances (9). 

Ann was widowed on the 5th December 1845. John died aged 57 in Newbury (abode at time of death: Northbrook Street)

The 1851 census records Ann (65) as a Grocer living alone in Marsh View Ecchinswell Hampshire

In 1861 Ann (75) was recorded living with her married daughter Sarah Lucas (47) and her family at 2 Bartholomew Street Newbury.

(Ann’s daughter Sarah married James Henry Lucas (1820-1899) James was Mayor of Newbury (1863-1864) her grandson Charles Lucas (1847-1928) was Mayor of Newbury (1880-1881)

Ann died aged 76 on the 5th September 1862 she was laid to rest in a private grave in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th September.
