Elizabeth was born Coombe Hampshire, the daughter of Thomas and Frances Winkworth (nee Walker) who were married in Coombe in 1853.

 

Elizabeth’s mother Frances died aged 23 in 1860 (death registered in Hungerford). Her father remarried later that year. His 2nd wife was Mary Cook.

 

In 1861 Elizabeth (6) was living in Coombe Hampshire with her father Thomas (34), a Carter, her step-mother Mary (23) and her brother George (4).

 

In 1871 she was recorded aged 17, working as General Domestic Servant at Bottomstead Farm, East Woodhay, Hampshire

 

In 1873 Elizabeth gave birth to an illegitimate son, Henry Thomas Winkworth born in Woodhay Hampshire.

 

She married Henry Liddiard in Newbury in 1877 (Henry was baptised in Aldbourne Wiltshire in 1853, the son of Stephen and Mary Ann Liddiard)

 

Henry and Elizabeth had the following two children:

Nelly born 1878 in Donnington

Charles Edward c1881 in Sulhamstead

 

In 1881 Elizabeth (26), her son Henry (7) (surname recorded as Liddiard), her husband Henry (28)  and their children Nelly (2) and Charles (4 months) were living at the Three Fir Trees Inn, Sulhamstead, Berkshire

Henry was recorded as the Innkeeper.

 

Henry died aged 30 in 1884, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th June.

 

Elizabeth had another son, Ernest William, born c1886 (birth registered in the March Q 1866, father unknown)

 

In 1889 she married Joseph Wright in Newbury. (Joseph Cornelius Wright was born in 1867 in Newbury, the son of John and Livinia Wright (nee Challis) who were married in Newbury in 1848).

 

Joseph and Elizabeth had the following three children:

Frederick John born 1899

Beatrice Elizabeth born c1893

Stanley Frank born 1899

 

In both the 1891 and 1901 census records Joseph was recorded as a Bricklayer’s Labourer. In 1911 he was recorded as a Wine Merchant’s Porter.

 

In 1891 the family were recorded living in Union Court, Newbury. In the 1901 and 1911 census records they were recorded living in York Road, Newbury. They continued to live in York Road until their deaths.

 

Elizabeth died aged 80 on the 10th April 1935, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th April.

 

Joseph died aged 88 on the 3rd July 1956, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th July.
