Adam, his parents and siblings:

Adam was baptised on the 24th November 1813 at St Nicolas Church Newbury the son of Adam & Hannah Curtis (nee Moore) who were married in Thatcham on 21st November 1810.

His father Adam was baptised on the 21st December 1789 in Winterbourne the son of John and Jane Curtis. He died aged 70 in 1857 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Newbury on the 28th January.

His mother Hannah was born c1792 in Shaw Berkshire the daughter of William and Mary Moore. Hannah remarried in 1858 in Newbury her 2nd husband was William Nash, a widower. She died aged 82 in 1874 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st December.

Henry baptised 6th January 1818 in Chieveley (died aged 3 in 1821 buried 20th July at St Nicolas Newbiry)

George baptised 12th February 1821 (died aged 1+ in 1822 buried 3rd June at St Nicolas)

Caroline baptised 30th March 1823

Louisa baptised 26TH March 1826

Eleanor baptised 23rd May 1828

 Israel baptised on the 29th October 1830

David baptised 24th June 1832 (died aged 3 months buried 21st July 1832 at St Nicolas Newbury)

Alfred baptised on the 29th March 1834 (died aged 2 in 1835 buried on the 21st March at St Nicolas Newbury)

Isaac baptised on the 22nd October 1834

Adam was recorded as a Labourer on all the baptism records of his children apart from Adam’s baptism in 1813 which records him as a Waggoner and Alfred’s baptism in 1834 which records him as a Watercress Seller. He was working as a Labourer in 1841 and a Fruiterer in 1851.

Adam:

Adam married Sarah Danvers (born c1812 in Newbury the daughter of Samuel and Phoebe Danvers) on the 5th October 1834 at St Nicolas Church Newbury and they had the following children:

The family lived in Mayor Lane Newbury and Adam worked as an Agricultural Labourer (1841), Corn Porter’s Labourer (1851) recorded as a Cripple, no occupation (1861) and a Glass Dealer (1871).

Adam died aged 67 on the 25th September 1879 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th September.

His widow Sarah worked as a Straw Dealer and continued to live at Mayor Lane until at least 1881. Later records show that she was admitted to the workhouse from the parish of Greenham where she died aged 77 on the 29th September 1888 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd October.
