          The death took place on Saturday April 20th, of Mrs. Jane Seward, wife of Mr. Samuel Seward, of “Longmead” Howard-road. She was struck down with a severe illness two years ago, but bore up with fortitude and made two remarkable rallies. Bronchitis set in at the end.

          Mrs. Seward, who was in her 70th year, was born at Ashford Hill, but spent most of her life in Newbury, throughout which time she was a loyal and energetic worker at the Primitive Methodist Church.

          The funeral took place on Wednesday, April 24th, the service at the church being conducted by the Rev. E.G. French, assisted by the Rev. T. Bates of Witney, and formerly of Newbury. The hymns were “O, for a faith” and “There is a land,” and at the graveside in the Newtown-road Cemetery, “Abide with me” was sung. Mr. Charles Griffin was at the organ and rendered Mendelssohn's “But the Lord is mindful,” and Handel's Dead March in “Saul.”

          The mourners were Mr. S. Seward (husband), Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Seward, Mr. and Mrs.Fred Seward, and Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Seward (sons and daughters-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Davis, and Mr. and Mrs. A. Moore (sons and daughters-in-law); Mr. C. Seward, Tilehurst (brother-in-law); Mrs. Stanton (Reading), and Mrs. W. Seward, Ashford Hill, (sisters-in-law); Mr. and Mrs Jim Folly, Wokingham, Mr. and Mrs. F. Wootton, Marsh Benham, Mrs. Frank Fisher, Abingdon, and Mrs. W. Keyte, Maidenhead (nephews and ….........
