Thomas Appleton
1815-1890
Thomas was born in Newbury the son of William and Elizabeth Appleton (nee Lambden/ Lambdin) who were married on the 19th September 1814 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.
His father William was a Sawyer, born c1790 in either Newbury or Woodhay Hampshire. He died aged 75 in 1865 and was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st June
His mother Elizabeth was born c1788 in Newbury she died aged 80 in 1868 and was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th June.
The 1815 census of Newbury records Thomas as an infant, living in Be Yard on the east side of Bartholomew Street Newbury with a Thomas Appleton (70), (possibly his grandfather), his parents, William (25) and Elizabeth (27), a William Lambdin (31) a Tailor, a Thomas Lambdin (26) and a Sarah Arrowsmith (50).
Thomas married Eliza Hazell (born c1813 in Greenham) on the 2nd April 1837 at St Mary’s Church Thatcham (both were single and from Greenham).
Thomas and Eliza also had the following children:

Thomas was recorded as a Sawyer in 1841, 1851 and 1861, and a Labourer in 1871
The family were recorded living in the City in the 1841, 1861 and 1871 census records and Nutley’s Yard, Bartholomew Street in the 1851 census
Eliza died aged 60 in 1870, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th February.
In 1881 Thomas (68) was recorded living in Chapel Street Basingstoke Hampshire with his married daughter Elizabeth Greenaway and her family.
He died aged 75 on the 24th February 1890 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery (date of burial unknown)
