William Edgar Grose Barnes was born in Newbury in 1836. His father was George Barnes (1804 – 7 May 1883, aged 79, bur. NRC) and his mother was Harriet Mecey (1813 – 31 Jan 1868, aged 55, bur. NRC). NB There is a lengthy NWN obit. Under George’s entry. George was the Borough Auditor, a founder of the Literary and Scientific Institution, an original member of the Field Club and published a book of poems “Family Fugitives”.

William was a surgeon in Fairford at 21 when he married in Walcot near Bath a Phoebe Isabel Lucas 7 April 1855. Phoebe was born in Charlecote in 1829, her father was Samuel Lucas and her mother was Phoebe Robbins
In 1865 he is in partnership as doctors in Fairford as “Cromwall and Barnes”
IN 1871 he is shown in Beech House, Tottenham as a surgeon with his wife Phoebe and daughter Ellen
In 1891 he is in St Marylebone, a member of the college of Surgeons
