He was appointed Chief Constable of the Newbury Borough Police on 1^st March 1836 having been formerly a patrolman for at least 10 years.

1829-31 He was Bellman and Beadle.

In 1830 he was Law Enforcement Officer during the Agricultural Riots where the local yeomanry were supplemented by a troop of the Grenadier Guards from London and rioters captured in searches in the village around Newbury were taken to Reading to be tried in January 1831.

In September 1842 he had almost alone faced a mob protesting about the enclosure of Eastfield and Westfield, in Newbury.

He died suddenly and unexpectedly on May 22 1852. June 1852, newbury , 2c, 137

Baptised at Lacock, Wilts. 20 May 1792 s/o Charles Milsom. He was therefore 60 and two days at his death.
