Ellen Hazell

Eleanor Curtis (aka Ellen) was born in Newbury she was baptised on the 23rd May 1828 at St Nicolas Church Newbury the daughter of Adam and Hannah Curtis (nee Moore) who were married on the 21st November 1810 in Thatcham Berkshire.
Adam and Hannah also had the following children (all baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury except Henry):

Henry baptised 6th January 1818 in Chieveley (died aged 3 in 1821 buried 20th July at St Nicolas Newbiry)

Israel baptised on the 29th October 1830
David baptised 24th June 1832 (died aged 3 months buried 21st July 1832 at St Nicolas Newbury)
Alfred baptised on the 29th March 1834 (died aged 2 in 1835 buried on the 21st March at St Nicolas Newbury)

In 1841 Ellen (12) was recorded as a Female Servant living in the parish of St Nicolas Newbury. Her parents and brothers, Israel (10) and Isaac (6) were living in Back Lane Newbury.
Ellen married (as Eleanor) John Hazell (born c1817 in Greenham) in 1846 (marriage registered in Newbury) and they had the following children:

In 1851 John (33) and Ellen (22) were living with Ellen’s grandmother Mary Moore (90) in Back Lane Newbury. John was recorded as a Labourer (Working on the Road) and Ellen was recorded as Nursing Mary Moore.
In the 1861 census John (46), Ellen (33), Albert (8), Malachi (7) and Elizabeth (6) were recorded living in Lewis’s Buildings Newbury John was recorded as an Agricultural Labourer.
Ellen died aged 33 in 1861 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th July.
In the 1871 census John (52) and his 3 children were recorded living in the City Newbury. John was recorded as a Labourer. (Surname recorded as Hagell on ancestry)
John died aged 66 in the Newbury Workhouse in 1877 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18th May
