Charlotte Perris

 

Charlotte her parents and siblings:

Charlotte was born in Newbury Berkshire the daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth Shapcott (nee Bowles) who were married on the 20th June 1790 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

Abraham was a Bricklayer he was born c1756. He died aged 58 in 1817 and was buried on the 15th March at St Nicolas Newbury.

Elizabeth was baptised on the 28th October 1771 at St Nicolas Church Newbury the daughter of George and Martha Bowles (possibly nee Dowling, married on the 18th August 1754 at St Nicolas Church Newbury). She died aged 81 in 1851 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th September.

 

Abraham and Elizabeth had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury (no baptism found for Charlotte yet!):

Harriot baptised 15th March 1795

Sarah born 6th May 1798, baptised 27th May 1798 (possible burial 10th March 1800 (Infant) Sarah Shelcot)

Anne born 22nd May 1801, baptised 14th June 1801

Elizabeth born 5th November 1803, baptised 4th December 1803

Latitia born 27th April 1806, baptised 23rd May 1806

Jane born 11th October 1808, baptised 6th November 1808

Sarah born 2nd March 1811, baptised 7th April 1811

Maria baptised 14th June 1814

In the 1815 census of Newbury Abraham (60), a Bricklayer, Elizabeth (41), Harriet (20), Ann (14), Elizabeth (12), Letitia (9), Jane (7), Sarah (4) and Maria (1)  were recorded living in Perris’s Yard on the east side of Northbrook Street, Newbury.

In 1841 Elizabeth (70) was living in Northbrook Street Newbury, her grandson William Perris (20), a Journeyman Tailor was living with her. (Surname recorded as Shapard on ancestry). The 1851 census records her as a Pauper/Nurse living at 7 Jack of Newbury Street Newbury.

 

Charlotte her husband, children and later life:

 Charlotte married Thomas Perris on the 22nd August 1814 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. (Thomas was born c 1784 in Ham Wiltshire). 

The 1815 census of Newbury records Thomas (30) (no occupation recorded) and Charlotte (24) living in Winchcomb Place on the east side of Northbrook Street, Newbury.

Thomas and Charlotte had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury:

John baptised 24th September 1815 (no occupation recorded for father)

Harriet baptised 17th March 1817 (father recorded as a Labourer) (died aged 15 days buried 24th March 1817 at St Nicolas Newbury)

William baptised 30th May 1818 (father recorded as a Labourer)

Thomas baptised 31st December 1820 (father recorded as a Labourer) (died aged 1+ buried on the 6th March 1822 at St Nicolas Newbury)

Thomas baptised 11th April 1822 (father recorded as a Grocer) (died aged 12 days, buried 24th April 1822 at St Nicolas Newbury)

Harriet baptised 26th May 1830 (father recorded as a Labourer)

 

The 1841 census records Thomas (50), Charlotte (45), John (20) and Harriett (8) living in Northbrook Street Newbury Thomas was working as a Labourer and John was working as a Servant.

Charlotte died aged 60 in 1851 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th January

In 1851 Thomas (66) was living alone in (? illegible) Cottage in the parish of St Nicolas Newbury

He died aged 69 in 1853 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th September
