Catherine/Caroline Brown

Catherine was born in Newbury she was baptised on the 29th November 1768 at St Nicolas Church Newbury the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Brown.

Her father Joseph died aged 77 in 1815 he was buried on the 12th February at St Mary the Virgin Speen.

In the 1815 census of Newbury Catherine was recorded as a Pastry Cook, living on the west side of Northbrook Street Newbury with her mother Elizabeth (74), her sister Mary and a Harriet Parker (20) (possibly her niece).

Her mother Elizabeth died aged 76 in 1817 she was laid to rest on the 7th September at St Mary the Virgin Speen.

 Catherine never married. In the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census records Catherine was recorded as an Almswoman living at 8 Raymonds Almshouses Newbury. In 1841 her sister Mary living with her. Both the 1851 and 1861 census records record her sisters Mary Brown and Eleanor Parker living with her.

Her sister Eleanor died aged 89 in 1861 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th April

Catherine died aged 92 in 1861 she was laid to rest in a private grave in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd August. She has been mistakenly recorded as Caroline in the NRC Company Accounts Ledgers. (Death registered as Catherine on both the GRO and FreeBMD websites)

Her sister Mary died aged 90 in 1864 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st February
