Ann Wheeler

c1787-1864

Ann Collins was born in Speen Berkshire, she was baptised on the 24th June 1787 the daughter of James and Ann(e) Collins (nee Harper) who were married in 1783 in Speen.  

Ann married Thomas Wheeler on the 25th December 1818 in Speen (both were single).Thomas was a Blacksmith.

Thomas and Ann had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury:

Edmund baptised 11th June 1820 (died aged 4 buried on the 26th June 1824 at St Nicolas Newbury)

Thomas baptised 1st December 1822 (died aged 2+ in 1825 buried 22nd July at St Nicolas Newbury)

William baptised 30th April 1824

Charles baptised 3rd June 1827

Eliza baptised 5th July 1829

Thomas born c1832 (no baptism found)

In 1841 Ann (50), Thomas (60), and their children William (15), Charles (15), Eliza (12) and Thomas (9) were living in Mary Hill Newbury.

The 1851 census also records Thomas (75), Ann (63) and their son Thomas (18), a Brush Maker, living in Mary Hill Newbury.

Thomas died aged 80 in 1856 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 19th July.

In 1861 Ann (74) was recorded as a lodger at 1 Dredge’s Yard Newbury. She died aged 77 in 1864 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 18th April.
