Hannah Wilder

c1780-1855

Hannah Carver was born in Berkshire she was baptised on the 25^th December 1780 in Kintbury the daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Carver (nee Church) who were married on the 16^th October 1780 in Inkpen.

 Benjamin and Sarah also had the following children (all baptised in Kintbury):

Benjamin 28^th September 1783

Sarah 29^th October 1786

Elizabeth 1^st March 1789

Hannah married Edward Wilder on the 2^nd March 1815 at St Nicolas Church Newbury. (Edward was a widower, born c1776 in Wallingford, 1^st wife Phoebe Brundson (nee Field) died aged 32 in 1814 , they had one child, Phoebe born c1809)

Edward and Hannah had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury:-

Harriet baptised 26^th June 1816 (father recorded as a Publican)

Twins, Charles and James baptised 31^st January 1818 (father recorded as a Publican)

Joseph baptised 17^th February 1819 (father recorded as a Publican)

William baptised 19^th August 1821 (father recorded as a Labourer)

Eliza baptised 8^th April 1823 (father recorded as a Labourer)

In 1815 Edward (40), Hannah (34) and Phoebe (6) were living at the Coach and Horses (on the west side of Cheap Street) Newbury (Edward was the Publican)

In the 1841 census Edward (60), was recorded as a Police Constable living in West Mills Newbury with his wife Hannah (60), a Harriet Wilder (20) and her son illegitimate son Henry (3).

In the 1851 census Hannah and Edward were recorded living separately. Hannah (72) was recorded as a widow, occupation, Pauper/Laundress, living in Factory Yard Newbury, also recorded in the household was a nephew, Henry Wilder (14) (this child was actually Hannah’s grandson the illegitimate son of her daughter Harriet, as recorded in the 1841 census above). Edward Wilder (74) was recorded as married, occupation, Labourer living alone at the Axe and Compass Yard Newbury.

 Hannah died aged 76 in 1855 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25^th June.

In 1861 Edward was recorded as an Almsman (late Waterman) living in Childs Almshouses, he died aged 85 in 1861 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20^th November.
