Mary Turner

1843-1873

 

Mary Adams was born in Newbury the daughter of Robert and Martha Adams (nee Ball) who were married on the 28th June 1829 at St Mary Thatcham (both were single and from Greenham).

Mary’s parents and siblings:

Mary’s father Robert was a Shoemaker, he was born c1810 in either Newbury or Farnborough he died aged 64 in 1872 in Newbury and was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th July.

Her mother Martha was born c1808 in Burghclere Hampshire the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Ball she died aged 87 in 1895 and was buried in Thatcham Cemetery on the 17th June.

Census records record Mary’s parents living in the City Newbury from 1841-1871. Her mother was recorded living in the City in 1881 and Derby Road in 1891.

Mary:

Mary married Thomas Turner in Newbury in 1863.

Marriage details:

Place: St John’s Church Newbury

Date: 23rd May 1863

Groom: Thomas Turner, aged 21, bachelor, occupation, Labourer, abode, St John’s Newbury

Bride: Mary Adams, aged 20, spinster, abode, St John’s Newbury

Fathers: Robert Adams occupation, Shoemaker and John Turner, occupation, Gardener

Witnesses: Thomas Maunder and Urania Smith

Both bride and groom made their mark

 

 

Thomas and Mary had three daughters, Ellen born c1864, Alice Mary born in 1865 and Charlotte Lucy born in 1871.

In 1871 the family were living in the City Newbury. Thomas was working as a Candle Maker’s Porter.

Mary died aged 30 in 1873 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st January

 

Thomas after Mary’s death:

Thomas remarried in 1874 his 2nd wife was Louisa Naylor.

His daughter Charlotte Lucy died aged 16 years 9 months on the 7th February 1888 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 13th February

Louisa died aged 81 on the 28th February 1915 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd March

Thomas died aged 75 on the 4th December 1916 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th December with Louisa and her sister Sarah Naylor who died in 1894.
