Oliver John Humphries

1888-1888

 

Oliver John was born in Newbury he was the son of John and Jemima Rachel Humphries (nee Oliver) who married in Newbury in 1881. Jemima was born 1855 in Shalbourne Wiltshire. John was born 1850 in Froxfield Wiltshire.

John and Jemima also had the following children:

Louisa Minnie 1885

Arthur Raymond 1889

Oliver Sydney 1891

Margaret Miriam 1893

In 1881 John (31), a Blacksmith and Jemima (25) were recorded living at the Red Lion Chieveley

Oliver died aged 0 in 1888 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th June. (NRC burial record and death registration recorded as Olive John)

The 1891 census records John (44) as a Blacksmith and Innkeeper living at the Cross Keys Inn Newbury with his family. The family were still living at the Cross Keys when the 1901 census was taken, John was recorded as an Employer (the occupation column records:  Job Master Stable).

The 1911 census records John as a Cab Proprietor (own business) living at The Phoenix London Road Newbury with his family

John died aged 78 on the 1st January 1928 (address at time of death, 9 London-road Newbury)

Jemima died aged 79 on the 9th December 1935 (at the time of her death Jemima was still living at 9 London-road Newbury)
