Evelyn May Winfield

1900-1911

 

Evelyn was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne Northumberland the daughter of Edgar John and Rosa Winfield (nee Dawson).

Her father Edgar was born in 1875 in Ewelme Oxfordshire the son of Moses and Ellen Winfield. In his early life Edgar worked as a Labourer and a Bricklayer, on the 19th April 1894 he joined the army.

Her mother Rosa was born on the 9th March 1873 in Wallingford Berkshire the daughter of John and Eliza Dawson (nee Brooker). In her early life Rosa worked as a Housemaid.

Edgar and Rosa were married in Wallingford in 1898.

Edgar died on the 17th December 1900 at Standerton Transvaal South Africa whilst serving in the Boer War.

The 1901 census records Rosa (28) and Evelyn (1) as boarders living at Winchcombe Villa Newbury.

The 1911 census records Rosa ((38) as a Dressmaker living at 26 West Street Newbury with Evelyn (11).

Evelyn died on the 6th April 1911 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th April.

The 1939 register records Rosa as a Retired Dressmaker living at Chilterns Chestnut Ave Wycombe Buckinghamshire. She died on the 28th May 1964 at St John’s Hospital Stone Aylesbury, at the time of her death she was still living at Chilterns Chestnut Ave, Hazlemere High Wycombe.
