Benjamin Werril was born in Wiltshire he was baptised on the 30th May 1790 in Aldbourne the son of William and Mary (nee Becking(ham)) who were married on the 12th May 1782 in Aldbourne (Surname recorded as Worral at time of marriage)

William and Mary also had the following children baptised in Aldbourne:

Betty Werrill baptised 17th November 1782

William Werrill baptised 22nd May 1785

George Werril baptisd 16th December 1792

Benjamin married Mary Hayes on the 13th October 1815 at St Mary Greenham , they had the following children baptised at St Nicolas Church Newbury. (Benjamin was recorded as a Labourer on all the baptism records):

George baptised 16th November 1817

Sarah baptised 11th June 1820

John baptised 25th January 1824

Hannah baptised 7th January 1827

William baptised 27th September 1829

Benjamin was recorded as a Beer Retailer in the 1847 and 1848 Post Office Directory of Berkshire, the 1852 Slater’s Directory of Berkshire records him as a Retailer of Beer in Thatcham. In both the 1841 and 1861 census records he is recorded as a Brewer’s Labourer, the 1851 census records him as a Labourer, Retired Publican.

In 1841 Benjamin (50) (surname mistakenly recorded as Kowell on ancestry) was recorded living in Green Man Yard, West Field, Newbury with Mary (50) and their daughters Sarah (15) and Hannah (14).

Mary died aged 55 in 1844 she was buried on the 17th August at St Nicolas Newbury

The 1851 census records Benjamin living alone in Back Lane Newbury.

By 1861 he was lodging with a Henry and Mary Wheatland in the Market Place Newbury.

He died aged 76 in 1864 (age at death recorded as 76 in the GRO website and 74 in the NBI), he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 11th February
