Adam Curtis
c1789-1857
Adam’s parents and siblings:
Adam was born c1789 in Winterbourne Berkshire, he was baptised on the 21st December 1789 in Winterbourne the son of John and Jane Curtis.
John and Jane also had the following two children baptised in Winterbourne:
Sarah 25th May 1788
Charlotte 27th May 1792
They also had a daughter Harriet born c1795 in Greenham.
In 1841 Adam’s mother Jane (80) was living with her married daughter Harriet Parr (40), (formerly Corderoy), her grandchildren, Joseph Corderoy (15), Eliza Parr (2 months), Harriet Parr (3), her step-granddaughter Hannah Parr (15), and her son-in-law George Parr (40), the Innkeeper, at the Bull and Dog Inn Newbury.
Jane died aged 80 in 1842 she was buried on the 24th February at St Mary Greenham
Adam:
Adam married Hannah Moore (born c1792 in Shaw, the daughter of William and Mary Moore) on the 21st November 1810 in Thatcham, they had the following children (and possibly more):

Henry baptised 6th January 1818 in Chieveley (died aged 3 in 1821 buried 20th July at St Nicolas Newbiry)
George baptised 12th February 1821 (died aged 1+ in 1822 buried 3rd June at St Nicolas)
Caroline baptised 30th March 1823
Louisa baptised 26TH March 1826
Eleanor baptised 23rd May 1828
Israel baptised on the 29th October 1830
David baptised 24th June 1832 (died aged 3 months buried 21st July 1832 at St Nicolas Newbury)
Alfred baptised on the 29th March 1834 (died aged 2 in 1835 buried on the 21st March at St Nicolas Newbury)
Isaac baptised on the 22nd October 1834
Adam was recorded as a Labourer on all the baptism records of his children apart from Adam’s baptism in 1813 which records him as a Waggoner and Alfred’s baptism in 1834 which records him as a Watercress Seller. He was working as a Labourer in 1841 and a Fruiterer in 1851.
Adam (50), Hannah (45), Israel (10) and Isaac (6) were recorded living in Back Lane Newbury in the 1841 census.
The 1851 census again records Adam and Hannah living in Back Lane, Their sons, Isaac (16) and Israel (22), a Blacksmith, his wife Ann (20) and their son Alfred (1) were recorded living with them.
Adam died aged 70 in 1857 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Newbury on the 28th January.
Hannah remarried in 1858 in Newbury her 2nd husband was William Nash, a widower. In 1861 they were living in Bartholomew Street, William was working as a Garden Labourer and Hannah was working as a Needlewoman.
Hannah Nash died aged 82 in 1874 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st December.
