Sarah Wickens

c1814-1904

Sarah Abraham(s) was born in Greenham, she was the daughter of Joseph & Ann Abraham(s) (nee Clayton) who were married in Thatcham on the 6th September 1806.

Other known children of Joseph and Ann were:

Martha born c1808, Isaac born c1810 and Laura born c1812

Sarah married Richard Wickens (born c1815 in Thatcham ) on the 16th October 1836 at St Mary’s Greenham and they had the following children:

Emily c1837 (died aged 10 in 1847)

Alfred 1839

Charles c1847

Richard 1850

Emma 1855

Richard worked as a Carpenter and the family lived in Montague Place Newtown Road Newbury in 1841 and Railway Terrace Newbury in 1851.

Richard died aged 43 in 1858 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th April.

Sarah’s son Alfred died aged 20 in 1859 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th August.

Sarah was living in Trafalgar Place from 1861–1881 and was working as a Seamstress and Charwoman.

The 1891 census records Sarah (76) living at 2 Church Almshouses, Newbury and the 1901 census records her aged 86 (recorded on ancestry as Sarah Wiggins) living at 2 New Church Almshouses Newbury.

Sarah died aged of 90 in 1904 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd December.
