David Taylor

1846-1920

David was born in Oxfordshire he was baptised on the 12^th April 1846 at St Mary’s Church Witney Oxfordshire the son of Stephen and Mary Anne Taylor (nee Pearce) who were married in Witney in 1845.

David’s parents:

Stephen was a Sawyer he was born c1803 in Witney he died in Witney in 1881. Mary Anne was born c1821 in Witney she died in 1871 in Curbridge Witney Oxfordshire.

Stephen was a widow when he married Mary Anne. His 1^st wife was Ann Groves (born 1801 in Witney) they were married on the 16^th April 1827 at St Mary’s Church Witney. Ann died aged 43 in 1843.

 Mary Anne had a son Stephen born in 1844 baptised as Stephen Mark Pearce on the 23^rd June 1844, before she married Stephen.

Stephen and Mary Anne also had the following children (all born in Witney):

David:

In 1851 David (5) was living with his parents Stephen (48) and Mary Ann (30) and siblings, Mark (7) (Stephen Mark) George (2) and William (3 months), in Lowell Street Witney.

In 1861 David (14) was working as a Blanket Factory Worker, living with his parents and siblings in Gully Hill Curbridge Witney.

He married in 1866

David and Ann had the following children (all born in Newbury except John who was born in Reading):

By 1871 David (25), was working as a Sawyer, living in Back Lane Newbury with Ann (25) and their son John (1).

Their daughter Mary Ann died aged 1 month in 1871 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 17^th October

Their son John died aged 5 in 1874 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 19^th December.

In 1881 David (35), Ann (34), Mary (4), David (2) and Rose (2 months) were living in Greenham Street Greenham Berkshire. David was still working as a Sawyer.

Ann died aged 37 in 1884 just after giving birth to her son Albert she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 13^th October. Albert died a couple of months later he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1^st January 1885.

David remarried in 1885 in Newbury his 2^nd wife was Mary Jane Ralph (born c1842 in Woodhay Hampshire)

By 1891 David (45), Mary (49), David (12) and Rose (10) were living in Mary Hill Newbury. David was working as a Steam Sawyer. Their daughter Mary (14) was working as a Domestic Servant for a widow, Mary Williams (59) in Craven Road Newbury.

Both the 1901 and 1911 census records record David and Mary living in Old Newtown Road Newbury. David was recorded as a Firewood Dealer.

David died aged 74 in 1920 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10^th July.

Mary Jane died aged 86 in 1929 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14^th January.
