URSULA PARR WILSON

She was the second daughter of William and Ursula Wilson (née Welsford).  She was born on 11 June 1792 in Dartmouth, Devon, and baptised on 16 June 1795 at the same time as her elder sister Susan Welsford Wilson, who was born on 21 April 1791.  Their baptisms were registered at the Presbyterian Meeting House, Dartmouth.    Her middle name Parr was the maiden name of her maternal grandmother, Ursula Parr, wife of Roger Welsford of Crediton.

Their brother William was born on 4 May 1798 and later another sister, Mary Chesson Wilson, was born on 28 October 1800.  For more family background, refer to her brother Rev. William Wilson’s record on this website.

It is not known when Ursula and her sister Mary Chesson Wilson followed their brother to Newbury when he took over the ministry of the Upper Meeting House in 1829.  Research has found no trace of the sisters in the 1841 census.

From the 1851 census Ursula, a spinster aged 58 years, was living in London Road, Speen, her occupation given as annuitant.  Sarah Couzens, aged 13 years, was employed as a domestic servant.

1861 census – Aged 70 years, she was the head of the household, at 32 West Street, with her sister Mary Chesson Wilson. Both spinsters were fundholders. General servant Esther Ramsden, aged 13, was in their employ.

Her sister Mary Chesson, after a long period of illness, died at their home aged 65 years.

1871 census - Aged 80 years, she is recorded living at 5 Madeira Place, Bartholomew Street.  Elizabeth Ann Attewell is employed as a domestic servant.

She died on 18 October 1871, aged 81 years. Her will was proven by Rev. Edmund Kell, Unitarian minister, and James Corbould, retired headmaster of Woodspeen House School. She was buried in the family vault with her brother Rev. William Wilson and her sister Mary Chesson Wilson.
