William Breeze

c1830-1877

William and his twin brother Richard were born in Newbury, they were baptised on the 23^rd November 1831 at St Nicolas Church Newbury as William Breeze Cook and Richard Breeze Cook the illegitimate sons of James Breeze and Ann Cook. Their father James was recorded on the baptism record as an Earthenware Man.

Ann Cook and James Breeze also had the following children:

Jesse James Breeze Cook Breeze born 14^th July 1829 in Odiham Hampshire

Elizabeth Breeze baptised 6^th September 1830 in Basing Hampshire

Possibly Ralph Breeze Cooke baptised on the 15^th April 1835 in Newbury (but father recorded as Ralph Breeze by mistake) mother recorded as Ann Cooke

William’s mother Ann Cook died just after giving birth to her daughter Ann, baby Ann died 3 months later.

William was recorded as both William Cook and William Breeze as follows:

In the 1841 census William Cook (9) was living in Rg Market Newbury. Others in the household were Richard Cook (9), (William’s twin), Hannah Breeze (45) and Richard Breeze (45), a China Dealer. (Hannah and Richard Breeze were William and Richard’s Aunt and Uncle)

In 1851 William Breeze (19) was recorded as a Glazier (Journeyman), living in Factory Yard Newbury with his wife Eliza (24) (Eliza was born c1827 in Clatford Hampshire).

In 1861 Eliza Breeze (38), a Dressmaker and William Breeze (31), a Painter & Glazier (Journeyman) were living in a Public House in Bartholomew Street Newbury.

The 1871 census records William Breeze (40) as an Innkeeper and Painter living in Bartholomew Street (William the 4^th) with Eliza (47) and their nephews, William Breeze (16) and John Tuson (13)

William died aged 46 in 1877 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10^th September.
