Hannah Buxey (1826 – 1906)

Hannah Fisher was born circa 1826 in Bucklebury, the daughter of George and Susan Fisher.

In the 1841 census Hannah was recorded with her parents George and Susan and siblings John aged 15, Ann aged 12, Daniel aged 10, Elizabeth aged 8, Caleb aged 6 and Mary aged 3 at Upper Common, Bucklebury, George was recorded as a bricklayer. Hannah was still living with her parents at Upper Common in the 1851 census along with four siblings and a granddaughter of her parents, Charlotte aged 2, Hannah did not have any occupation recorded.

Hannah married Thomas Osgood in Q1 1852 in Bradfield district, so probably in Bucklebury. Thomas was born circa 1822 in Bucklebury,

In the 1861 census Thomas and Hannah with children George aged 8 and Mary Ann aged 3 were recorded living at Upper Common, Bucklebury, Thomas was as an agricultural labourer. Ten years later in the 1871 census they were living in Tyler Lane in Bucklebury with sons George aged 19, James age 9 and Henry aged 6 with Thomas a labourer. In the 1881 census Thomas and Hannah with son George were living at Upper Common in Bucklebury with Thomas an agricultural labourer.

Thomas died in February 1888 at Donnington Almshouse and was buried on 14 February 1888 at St Mary the Virgin in Shaw cum Donnington.

Hannah remarried on 6 November 1888 at Newbury Registry Office to George Buxey, a widower. George was born circa 1826 in Bucklebury. Both were recorded as resident of Donnington Almshouse at the time of the marriage.

In the 1891 census George and Hannah were recorded living at Donnington Almshouse with George being recorded as living on his own means.

George died July 1896 while still living at Donnington Almshouses and was buried on 28 July 1896 at St Mary the Virgin in Shaw cum Donnington.

Hannah was record as a pauper living in Newbury Union Workhouse in the 1901 census. Hannah died 10 March 1906 in the Workhouse and she was buried on 14 March 1906 at Newtown Road Cemetery.
