Eliza Goddard was born in Litchfield Hampshire she was baptised on the 26th April 1835 in Litchfield and was the daughter of Thomas and Susannah Goddard (nee Clark) who married in Enborne Berkshire on the 3rd March 1822. Thomas was born c1798 in Newbury and was an Agricultural Labourer and Susannah was born c1802.

Susannah died aged 38 in 1841 (death registered in Kingsclere). The 1841 census records Thomas living in Litchfield with his children, David 14, John 12, Charlotte 9 and Eliza 6.
Thomas remarried in 1841, his 2nd wife was Mary Mortimer, a neighbour, they had a daughter Mary Ann, (aka Ann) born in 1845.
The 1851 census records Eliza (16) living with her father, her stepmother, her brother David (21) and her half-sister Ann (5) in Litchfield. She married Charles Hoare (born c1834 in Woodhay Hampshire) on the 1st September 1855 in Litchfield Hampshire.
Charles was born c1834 in East Woodhay Hampshire he worked as a Groom and an Agricultural Labourer. They had two sons, Joseph Vincent born c1857 and George born in 1859, both were born in Hampshire.
By 1861 the family were living in Wash Common Newbury. Eliza gave birth to another son but the baby didn’t survive long enough to be given a name, he was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th January 1862. Eliza died aged 25 less than three weeks later, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th January.
Charles remarried in 1862 his 2nd wife was Lucy Goddard (born c1843 in Newbury) they had the following children: Elizabeth Charlotte born 1863, died aged 2 in 1866, Charles William born c1865, John Luke born 1868, Kezia born 1871, Susanna born c1874, Edwin born 1876, Amy Lyda born c1879, Eli born 1881 and Matthew born 1885. The family lived in Newbury until at least 1874 but by 1881 they were living in Sonning. By 1891 they had moved to Wokingham Road St Giles Reading and Charles was working as a Miller.
Charles died aged 67 in 1900 in Reading.
Lucy died aged 80 in 1923 in Reading.
