William Bulpit

c1799-1873

 

William was born in Wiltshire he was baptised on the 4th July 1799 at St Mary the Virgin Marlborough Wiltshire and was the son of John and Sarah Bulpit (nee Smith) who were married o the 15th January 1799 at St Mary the Virgin Marlborough Wiltshire (surname recorded as Bulpet).

John and Sarah also had the following children:

Elizabeth privately baptised 18th August 1801 admitted into the church St Peter and St Paul Marlborough Wiltshire on the 4th June 1802

Joseph baptised 25th August 1805 in Enborne Berkshire

Martha baptised 22nd May 1808 in Enborne Berkshire

The 1815 census of Newbury records John (44), Sarah (40), William (15), Elizabeth (13), Joseph (9) and Martha (7), living on the east side of the Wash, Newbury.

William’s mother Sarah died aged 43 in 1818 she was buried at St Michael and All Angels Enborne on the 24th May. His father John died aged 67 in 1836 he was laid to rest on the 14th May at St Nicolas Newbury.

William married Elizabeth Currell on the 28th November 1829 at St Nicolas Church Newbury (both were single)

The 1841 census records William as Will Bulpit (45) (no occupation recorded) and Elizabeth Bulpit (45) living in White’s Yard Greenham Berkshire.

In 1851 William (50) and Elizabeth (55), were living in Greenham Common Newbury, William was working as a Cattle Dealer.

Elizabeth died aged 65 in 1861 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th January.

The 1861 census records William (66) as a Gardener, living in Gibbs Yard, Bartholomew Street Newbury. The 1871 census William (70) was recorded as a Labourer, lodging in The City Lodging House Newbury.

William died (age at death recorded as 89) in 1873 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th May.
