Ellen Caroline Sarah Hill (1883 – 1884)

Ellen Caroline Sarah Hill was born circa March 1883 in Andover district, the daughter of Albert Griffiths and Emma, nee Stone, Hill. Albert and Emma had married in 1881 in Wilton district of Somerset, which is where Albert was born circa 1854. Emma was born circa 1856 in Wiltshire.

Ellen died March 1884 aged 12 months at The Globe in Bartholomew Street. She was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 5 March 1884.

Albert and Emma had another daughter Fanny Gertrude later in 1884 and a son Charles Tom Stone in 1886 both born in Newbury before moving to Weyhill where a son Edwin William was born in 1888. At the time Albert was a public house manager and was moving frequently because of his occupation. The family was living in Southwark in the 1891 census. In 1901 Albert was a widower living with two of his children in Camberwell and he was now a grocer.

In the Newbury Weekly News dated 6 August 1885 there was an announcement that the licence of the “Globe Inn” was temporarily transferred from Albert G Hill to Sydney Smith.
